AVING KICKED OFF in September 2012 as part of the Year of Portugal in Brazil commemorations, Portugal dos Sabores, an initiative from the Portuguese Tourism Board, brought together some of the most prominent chefs from Portugal and Brazil for a special charity event in São Paulo that marked the end of the programme on June 17th, 2013.

Representing Portugal, chef Matteo Ferrantino joined José Avillez (Belcanto) and Ricardo Costa (The Yeatman) in the kitchen at Arola Vintetres, the restaurant located on the 23rd floor of the Tivoli São Paulo-Mofarrej hotel, where they created a special tasting menu alongside their Brazilian peers – Jefferson Rueda (Attimo), Alberto Landgraf (Épice) and hosting chef Fernando Coradazzi.

Dishes such as the pork jowls with sweet potato and caviar, the smoked mackerel with vinegary vegetables, and the slow-cooked ox tongue and marsala, were served at the closing event, part of a programme whose overall goal was to exchange experiences and products from both countries. On this occasion, all the money raised went to Make-A-Wish® Brasil, an organisation dedicated to making the dreams of children and youngsters come true.
